Personal Performance Awards, from British Canoeing (BC)' are skills-based awards that replaced the BC Star Award system in January 2019.
The Personal Performance Sea Kayak Awards are designed for paddlers wanting to gain recognition for their learning and development.
The process of completing the awards is based on learning. The ethos of ‘supporting the paddler’ is the main focus of all the awards, encouraging individuals in their personal development.
Personal Performance Awards from BC provide a framework for individuals, in their development as sea kayakers. There are 3 levels of award - BC Sea Kayak Award, BC Coastal Sea Kayak Award and BC Advanced Sea Kayak Award.

These awards have the following syllabi:
Coastal Spirit has produced a self profiling radar tool to assist and support paddler development. Each area on the profile can be self-assessed, by the paddler, and verified by Roger.
You can download the PDF to your PC, then open the PDF (using adobe reader), you will then get an option to add your name as text, and also draw over the PDF with red dots and then resave. Once resaved the PDF can be shared via email. Or print off the PDF, write on it by hand, take a photo and email the photo.
If you download or view the PDF on your mobile phone you should be able to write on it, using your finger, safe and then share.

Use the self profiling model below to further guide and assist your understanding and development. It is useful to complete the model a few times during a year, as your skills develop and focus changes.

Great day with Sally working on boat handling, reading the water and its ok to feel uncomfortable.
Cemaes to Bull Bay was perfect, with wind with tide and then wind against by the afternoon so we got a few waves and a nice push along the coast.
It was nice to see Rob again too. Thanks for helping with the shutle!
Great team and super time on our Shetland Adventure with the tall ship Lady of Avenel Sailing. Otters, Puffins, Orca and MuckleFlugga!
Thanks to Zoe Robinson and Hamish Leslie for their support and inputs.

Surf & tide race course, with a good blend of dynamic water over the three days. With Rhoscolyn and the Beacon, Cemaes to Bull Bay via Middle Mouse and the Swellies. We had some super rock features on the north coast on Friday and just the right amount of swell. My highlight was this interesting water spout - it was so much fun!
It was a pleasure paddling with you all and thanks to Craig Young for his support.

P&H Sea Kayaks "And I'm probably learning more from his mentoring now, as my paddling horizons expand, than ever before. I can't count how many questions I've asked... and he's answered. Roger has the knack of making that suggestion that radically changes your thinking and moves your paddling on in leaps and bounds."
"I've just completed a two day 4* Sea kayak training course with Roger. Having been coached by Roger in the past, I choose to do this course with Roger because I knew I would get a great deal from the course. My expectations were certainly well and truly met"
"There are a number of wonderful things about Roger. He has a very light touch in his coaching, and he's always smiling and encouraging you to relax into the enjoyment of the day"
