This discipline specific award is designed to indicate that the candidate has the skill level to safely paddle and lead other competent paddlers on sections of Moderate water. A Moderate water (four star) sea kayak leader will have the all round paddling ability, safety, rescue and basic leadership required to undertake trips with a group of paddlers who have the paddling skills required, but not necessarily the experience, to operate in a self-sufficient manner in Moderate conditions
This is a two day assessment, focuses on your personal skills, assisted/self rescues and group leadership. Pre-requisites are BC Moderate water (4 star) sea kayak leader training course, or old coach 3 sea training (within last 3 years) and relevant safety training. This is a coastal navigation & tidal planning or similar theoretical navigation course, plus 8 hr first aid certificate incl CPR.
Before an assessment you need to have completed a leader qualifications registration form, which is valid for one year after your initial training course. A photocopy/photo needs to be forwarded to me, before booking on this course.
Assessment guidance notes and the Leadership Registration (LR) form can be found here
"I've just completed a two day 4* Sea kayak training course with Roger. Having been coached by Roger in the past, I choose to do this course with Roger because I knew I would get a great deal from the course. My expectations were certainly well and truly met"
"There are a number of wonderful things about Roger. He has a very light touch in his coaching, and he's always smiling and encouraging you to relax into the enjoyment of the day"
"And I'm probably learning more from his mentoring now, as my paddling horizons expand, than ever before. I can't count how many questions I've asked... and he's answered. Roger has the knack of making that suggestion that radically changes your thinking and moves your paddling on in leaps and bounds."
