What if it's really windy?
It's one of the great reasons for working in North Wales with an island as big as Anglesey, you can normally avoid the worst of the wind and use what there is in a positive way. If the wind is particularly strong this may mean working on a local lake where we can still go over the various skills in a more sheltered location.
Will Coastal Spirit ever cancel a course?
Coastal Spirit will notify the customer of cancellation as soon as it is able to do so where on reasonable grounds cancellation of a course is believed necessary due to unsuitable or dangerous conditions. In the event of this happening, we will offer customers the choice of either a full refund of the fee paid or another booking on a different date.
Are there any age limits for courses?
For all our courses you must be over 18 unless accompanied by your parent or guardian, and then 13 is the minimum age.
How fit do I need to be?
All of our courses assume a certain level of fitness and the fitter you are the more you will get out of your course. Core strength is the main element that is required.
Do I need to be able to swim to go sea kayaking?
Anyone booking needs to be water confident and it's recommended that you're able to swim 100 metres as a minimum. This way you're more than likely to get the most from your course.
Are all the courses safe?
Outdoor activities by their nature contain an element of risk and benefit. Coastal Spirit manages your adventurous experiences with highly experienced, local and well-qualified guides. Risk and benefits management will be discussed and shared with you. This way you can develop your own awareness and understanding.
What do you mean by the term wild camping on your expeditions?
This means that there will be no facilities ... no bathroom, so no toilet. As villages are passed and coffee shops are visited opportunities exist to freshen up and use a toilet. Otherwise, we will go through how to manage ourselves in the outdoors, without these facilities and with a minimal impact approach.
Is it worth bringing my camera for the sea kayaking?
It can be, providing it is either in a waterproof one or in a specific dry bag. Whoever is running your course will tend to have a waterproof camera with them and will share any photos taken on a digital link - unless you express differently when booking.

I can't make the course dates you advertise?
If you want to do a certain course but cannot make the dates advertised, tells us what dates you can do, as we may be able to run another course. Particularly if this was a two-day course during the week.

Great day with Sally working on boat handling, reading the water and its ok to feel uncomfortable.
Cemaes to Bull Bay was perfect, with wind with tide and then wind against by the afternoon so we got a few waves and a nice push along the coast.
It was nice to see Rob again too. Thanks for helping with the shutle!
Great team and super time on our Shetland Adventure with the tall ship Lady of Avenel Sailing. Otters, Puffins, Orca and MuckleFlugga!
Thanks to Zoe Robinson and Hamish Leslie for their support and inputs.

Surf & tide race course, with a good blend of dynamic water over the three days. With Rhoscolyn and the Beacon, Cemaes to Bull Bay via Middle Mouse and the Swellies. We had some super rock features on the north coast on Friday and just the right amount of swell. My highlight was this interesting water spout - it was so much fun!
It was a pleasure paddling with you all and thanks to Craig Young for his support.

P&H Sea Kayaks "And I'm probably learning more from his mentoring now, as my paddling horizons expand, than ever before. I can't count how many questions I've asked... and he's answered. Roger has the knack of making that suggestion that radically changes your thinking and moves your paddling on in leaps and bounds."
"I've just completed a two day 4* Sea kayak training course with Roger. Having been coached by Roger in the past, I choose to do this course with Roger because I knew I would get a great deal from the course. My expectations were certainly well and truly met"
"There are a number of wonderful things about Roger. He has a very light touch in his coaching, and he's always smiling and encouraging you to relax into the enjoyment of the day"
