Successful completion of the British Canoeing (BC) 3 Star Sea Kayak award means that you can consider yourself an intermediate paddler. The award requires you to be able to tackle moderate tidal conditions as part of a led group; which includes having the group awareness skills to be able to assist in the smooth running of such a trip. Areas covered will include managing and controlling your kayak in F3 winds (9-13 mph), 2-3 ft swell, surf up to 3ft (1mt), assisted rescues and rolling and self rescues on flat water.

Previous experience required is two star skills, though the award itself is not a requirement and for assessment purposes evidence of a minimum of three different journeys of 8nm/16k.

A two or five day 3 star sea course, when available can either be run as a pure training course which on completion will lead to a personalised action plan, or if you have the previous experience and skills the course can be run as an on going training and assessment.  If however, you meet all the requirements then a 3 star sea assessment can also be run over one day.

The day is aimed at the individual, to further assisted them as a performer, coach or leader. It will be delivered in an understandable and practical way which should shed some light on this large subject area.

"There are a number of wonderful things about Roger. He has a very light touch in his coaching, and he's always smiling and encouraging you to relax into the enjoyment of the day"

Simon Turnbull

"I've just completed a two day 4* Sea kayak training course with Roger. Having been coached by Roger in the past, I choose to do this course with Roger because I knew I would get a great deal from the course. My expectations were certainly well and truly met"

Tavi Murray

"And I'm probably learning more from his mentoring now, as my paddling horizons expand, than ever before. I can't count how many questions I've asked... and he's answered. Roger has the knack of making that suggestion that radically changes your thinking and moves your paddling on in leaps and bounds."
