Just imagine landing your sea kayak on a stunning beach and setting up camp for the night. Imagine sitting around a driftwood fire as the night draws in. You hear the gentle roll of the sea and the chatter of various sea birds. This is sea kayaking at its best.
Previous sea kayaking experience is required with all of our Journeys and Expeditions, this means that you get the most out of each stunning experience.
On any of the 5 day expeditions you will also learn how to organise and plan your route, so you can paddle coastal waters after you leave. An opportunity where you can combine a learning experience with a truly inspirational journey.

On this self contained sea kayaking journey around the rugged, scenic coast of the Isle of Anglesey, you will experience; tide races, winds between force 2-5 and ocean waves, visit remote islands, paddle beneath sea cliffs, see grey seals and porpoises, various sea birds and learn new skills in a practical and active way. You will also be involved in the decision making and tidal planning each day.
This is a super opportunity for aspiring 4 or 5 star leader's, to have a real opportunity to be involved in a significant expedition, involving some of the fastest tide races, exposed headlands and committing coastline the Uk has to offer. Under the guidance of an active Level 5 coach and 4*/5* trainer and assessor.
If the weather is very rough and round the island is not possible, we will refund you the difference between one of our courses (£100 for no wild camping or £20 back for each night ). You can then put this refund towards your accommodation and this still allows us to go out each day and paddle the best locations and conditions. read more
This is your chance to experience seven days sea kayaking along the coast and islands of Shetland or Orkney. Both are really superb sea kayaking location's with crystal clear waters, sea stacks, big clifts, huge caves (Geo's), arches, truly stunning history and wildlife such as otters, white tailed sea and golden eagles, dolphins and.... if were lucky Orca and other whales too. With its northern location, its cooler, more agriculture and with it also being flatter than most West Coast islands the midge is smaller in number!! Hence we can camp and really enjoy the islands.
Static camping based for some of the time for specific day trips, with the idea of a 2/3 day wild camp expedition, weather permitting. Camping fees are not included in the cost of the course. You need to supply your own camping kit and equipment, as well as your own sea kayak.
You will meet Roger in Shetland or Orkney as he will already have been there for a week. To keep cost down, were possible Roger is keen for individual's to car share and only take what vehicles are necessary across. Either way the course starts on Shetland or Orkney and you need to get your self there!
Ability: Top end InterMediate performance skills as a minimum (your able to paddle 30 km a day, happy in f4 (16-18mph) bwinds, manage 1mt swell and surf, have an occasional roll, able to assist in rescues and happy camping from your kayak). This is due to the strong winds and big North sea swells, we may experience. This is bound to be an exciting and memorable adventure.

This expedition is 'One BIG Adventure', that takes in the rugged coastlines of the West and North of Scotland and the relative shelter of The Great Glen. And at over 400 nm this is a significant and realistic venture. This expedition covers some of the most spectacular and exposed stretches of the UK coastline, including Cape Wrath, the infamous Pentland Firth and the most westerly point of mainland UK, Ardnamurchan Point and many glorious beaches along the way. In 2015 the team was successful in completing this, in 28 days and in 2017 the 'Salty' RoB from Fort William to Inverness was completed in 28 days. Read more here
In 2011 Coastal Spirit decided to run 'One BIG Adventure' (1BA), a fast track and rapid development programme, with a one month long paddle around Wales. The plan was to use the canals and waterways on the inland section and then along the coastline, to rejoin the dots back to the start point. Di Lee, one of the course participants wrote an article about her adventure in two parts, which can be read below. Enjoy!
Prices above are per person and in GBP.

"And I'm probably learning more from his mentoring now, as my paddling horizons expand, than ever before. I can't count how many questions I've asked... and he's answered. Roger has the knack of making that suggestion that radically changes your thinking and moves your paddling on in leaps and bounds."
"I've just completed a two day 4* Sea kayak training course with Roger. Having been coached by Roger in the past, I choose to do this course with Roger because I knew I would get a great deal from the course. My expectations were certainly well and truly met"
"There are a number of wonderful things about Roger. He has a very light touch in his coaching, and he's always smiling and encouraging you to relax into the enjoyment of the day"
