4 nights wild camp
Date: 10-14th August 2014
Group size and ratio is 1:4
On this self contained sea kayaking journey around the rugged, scenic coast of the Isle of Anglesey, you will experience; tide races, winds between Beaufort force 2-5 and ocean waves, visit remote islands, paddle beneath sea cliffs, see grey seals and porpoises, various sea birds and learn new skills in a practical and active way. You will also be involved in the decision making and tidal planning each day.
This is a super opportunity for aspiring 4 or 5 star leader's, to have a real opportunity to be involved in a significant expedition, involving some of the fastest tide races, exposed headlands and committing coastline the Uk has to offer. Under the guidance of an active Level 5 coach and 4*/5* trainer and assessor.
If the weather is very rough and round the island is not possible, we will refund you the difference between one of our courses (£100 for no wild camping or £20 back for each night ). You can then put this refund towards your accommodation and this still allows us to go out each day and paddle the best locations and conditions.
We also learn about the complexities of coastal navigation and tidal planning, sea safety and other expedition skills. Previous wild camping experience is essential and to complete a circumnavigation would be dependent on reasonable weather conditions.
It is essential that you are familiar with camping from a sea kayak and a confident camper. We will use wild camps along the coast, this means no facilities are provided. An information sheet with guidance on minimal impact camping during your journey, can be provided upon request. All journeys are based on you providing your own food as well as you proving all of your camping kit and equipment.
With any of our courses, our group size is small (ratio of 1:4) this means your experience is more personalised, richer and our overall impact on the environment is reduced.
To get the mileage in, the week will be made up of a combination of early starts, late finishes and some times both ... with this in mind to get the most from this amazing experience you need to be a fit and capable paddler, with 3 star skills as a minimum, the ability to roll your kayak and experience of paddling in the above described conditions.
To get a better idea and a feel for this experience, have alook at a brief account of our trip in 2011, on my Blog - here.
"There are a number of wonderful things about Roger. He has a very light touch in his coaching, and he's always smiling and encouraging you to relax into the enjoyment of the day"
"I've just completed a two day 4* Sea kayak training course with Roger. Having been coached by Roger in the past, I choose to do this course with Roger because I knew I would get a great deal from the course. My expectations were certainly well and truly met"
"And I'm probably learning more from his mentoring now, as my paddling horizons expand, than ever before. I can't count how many questions I've asked... and he's answered. Roger has the knack of making that suggestion that radically changes your thinking and moves your paddling on in leaps and bounds."
